2月 28, 2025, Giant Bench of Veano
The 357th giant bench of the Big Bench Community Project was "born" in Veano di Vigolzone, next to the long tree-lined avenue. From here, visitors can admire the splendid panorama and landscape of the Piacenza hills and valley, while also learning about the history of one of Piacenza's most illustrious citizens: Giulio Alberoni, his College, the artistic heritage it houses, and the Veano estate. Cardinal red is the color of the large bench awaiting travelers, tourists, walkers, cyclists, and the large community of bench-holders in Veano; red like the purple of Giulio Alberoni's cardinal's robe, which stands out in the most famous portrait for which the illustrious Piacenza native is recognized worldwide. It is the second in the Vigolzone area, after the one in Villò, inaugurated in 2022. https://www.ilpiacenza.it/attualita/installata-una-panchina-gigante-a-veano.html © IlPiacenza

10月 6, 2024, View of Travo and the Trebbia River
The descent that begins on the ridge that separates the Trebbia Valley from the Luretta Valley ends in Travo. The descent is very panoramic, with a beautiful view of the characteristic crest of Pietra Parcellara, also known as the Matterhorn of the Trebbia Valley, and Pietra Perduca. The beauty and uniqueness of the Pietre is given by the gap they show with respect to the context that surrounds them. If Pietra Perduca and Parcellara were in the Alps, they probably would not attract attention. Instead, they emerge in the middle of an Apennine landscape of gentle hills. The Pietre have a dominant position because while the surrounding soft formations were dismantled by erosive agents, they resisted thanks to the resistance of their rocks. A process known as differential erosion. Pietra Parcellara and Pietra Perduca are two fragments of oceanic crust trapped in the middle of clay and sandstone. It is precisely the contrast between the gently sloping slopes that define the Emilian Apennines and the decidedly Alpine appearance of the Pietre that makes these places so interesting.

10月 6, 2024, Castello di Monticello
Monticello Castle was first mentioned in 1372, when it was occupied by troops loyal to the Pope during an anti-Visconti uprising. Located on the ridge that divides Val Trebbia and Val Luretta, Monticello Castle represents a pleasant and harmonious whole from a landscape point of view with the surrounding hilly environment typical of the lower Piacenza Apennines (540 meters above sea level). The structure has an irregular quadrangular plan, but currently shows the clearly visible signs of the various and heterogeneous architectural modifications and additions undergone over the centuries. The front of the castle is on the eastern side, which is dominated by the mass of the portal, equipped in ancient times with a drawbridge; a sturdy square tower rises to the left of the entrance to guard the south side, while two round turrets are placed to protect the north side. The interior develops around two courtyards of different proportions, facing the main buildings, used as homes. All around the fortress, structures of an evidently agricultural nature have arisen in more recent times, which have little to do with the original structure and which emphasize its hybrid aspect, but at the same time soften its forms. The castle is currently used as the headquarters of a local agricultural company, but it is worth noting the stark contrast between the unused parts of the building, almost at risk of collapse in some places, and the inhabited parts, which are better preserved.

5月 7, 2024, Castello di Vigolzone
The presence of a castle in Vigolzonum or Vigolizonum seems to date back to 1095. The layout of the castle, which combines the needs of a good defense with the comforts of a stately home, is developed on a rectangular plan with two towers arranged at opposite corners. The largest, to the north-west, also served as a keep: with a square base and adorned with swallowtail battlements, it towered above the drawbridge by about 40 metres. Of the imposing building, the two ancient-looking towers stand out where the inscription is located which, welcoming guests, reports news on the foundation of the castle

A church dedicated to Saints Cosma and Damiano in Castellana, a hamlet of Gropparello, is already documented in pastoral visits of the 16th century. The current building was built in 1937 in neo-medieval style, designed by the Piacenza engineer Francesco De Benedetti. Elements of Gothic and Romanesque style are used in the exposed brick gabled façade. The bell tower stands alone on the right of the apse. With a square plan, exposed stone on three orders, it has a bell tower open on all four sides with round arches. The cell is covered with a cone-shaped terracotta roof. The interior of the church of Santi Cosma e Damiano in Castellana is divided into three naves; the marble altar and the wooden crucifix are interesting

5月 7, 2024, Pietra del Diavolo Piplon
Piplon, a foolish devil, one day fell in love with a beautiful girl named Gesandra, but the young girl would not have anything to do with him. To deceive her, therefore, he disguised himself as a knight and sought the collaboration of Brother Gesualdo, a local religious man, to intercede for him. But the friar did not let himself be ensnared and deceived him in turn. He told him to come back in a week and carved a rock in his own likeness; Once the devil returned, Brother Gesualdo convinced him that the girl would marry him only if he waited for her, immobile, in that place for seven years, seven months and seven days and offered to stay with him while waiting. Months passed and then years and Piplon fell asleep, carelessly letting the sand carried by the wind cover him and transform him into the rock that can still be seen today on the road to Castellana, in the municipality of Gropparello.

5月 7, 2024, Castello di Riva
The Riva castle is a fortified complex located in Ponte dell'Olio, in the province of Piacenza. It is so called as it is located in the district of the same name in the town, whose name derives, in all probability, from its proximity to the Nure stream; the castle was, in fact, built on the right bank of the stream to control the passage along the Nure valley. Its location, near the point where the Nure begins to flow into the Po Valley, was strategic as it allowed control of the passage towards the sea: via the Aveto valley towards Liguria and via the Taro valley towards Lunigiana.

The Riva Castle, of typical medieval construction, dates back to 1277 as attested by the inscription MCCLXXVII fuit factum hoc castrum, carved inside the manor, and its construction is due to the Del Cairo family of Piacenza, who in 1323 handed it over to Anguissola, appointed by Duke Visconti in 1468, counts of the fiefdom. In 1567 they sold it to Duke Ottavio Farnese who elevated it to a marquisate and gave it to Paolo Vitelli, one of the captains in his service. In 1703 Riva passed to Cesare and Carlo Maggi and then to the Cusani of Milan. In 1778 it was sold to the Sforza Fogliani and then to the Scribani Rossi. Between the 19th and 20th centuries, the Roman prince Emanuele Ruspoli bought it, who completely renovated it in 1884, relying on the architect Angelo Colla, who was also responsible for the restoration of the Gothic Palace of Piacenza. The interventions are not limited to a conservative restoration, but involve a true reconstruction of the building in neo-medieval style which involves, among other things, the elevation of the keep and the creation of curtains and battlements. From Ruspoli the manor passed to the Fioruzzi family, and, therefore, to the current owner Sebastiano Grasso Camardi Polizzi.

12月 23, 2023, View of Riva Castle from the Nure River
The Riva Castle. On the right bank of the Nure torrent, between the watercourse and the road that goes up the lower Nure Valley, the Riva Castle stands out, 18 km from Piacenza, in the Castelli del Ducato circuit in Emilia Romagna. The stronghold of Riva was born in ancient times as a military outpost to control the passage over the territory, towards the sea, through the Val d'Aveto towards Liguria, the Val Taro towards Lunigiana and towards the Po Valley where the watercourse begins. The story in brief. 5月 1, 2023, Bettola
Bettola in Italian means "tavern": the town of Val Nure is called this because it represented a resting place for merchants. The road that leads from Piacenza to Genoa was called "via dell'olio" by the people of Piacenza and "via del pane" by the Genoese. In Bettola exchanges took place between traders of cereals, a typical product of the Emilian province, and of oil, a typical product of the Ligurian province.

It may seem paradoxical, but in Ponte dell'Olio there is a splendid bridge over the Nure stream. Coming from Vigolzone or Rivergaro, you will have a splendid bell tower in front of you.
