Built in the 16th century, this ancient military tower is now located in the center of Viareggio and owes its name to an incorrect attribution of its construction to Matilde di Canossa. Indeed, the countess, one of the most important figures of the Italian Middle Ages, died about four hundred years before the completion of this tower.

Located at 558 meters above sea level, the Passo del Lucese connects Trebbio and Valpromaro. It is a short climb and not as hard as the average slope, but some steep sections - present on both sides - should not be underestimated.
