The Ponte della Cresa is a stone bridge built in the 14th century and despite the frequent flooding of the Verde river, it has maintained its original structure to this day. The bridge connects the new neighborhoods with the historic center. The bridge is located along the Verde river near Porta San Francesco. Under the arch of this bridge, on January 31, the characteristic fire of San Geminiano takes place. The Ponte della Cresa is considered by many to be the true symbol of the city of Pontremoli. It is also interesting to note that the name Pontremoli derives from the Latin 'Pons Tremulus', which means 'unsafe bridge'. This was a term used to describe the original conurbation of the city.

On its banks is the "Giovanni Mariotti" refuge. Built by the local CAI section with the aim of providing shelter and accommodation for hikers, it was inaugurated on 12 September 1882. On 11 August 1935 it was dedicated to Giovanni Mariotti, mayor of the city of Parma, senator of the Kingdom and president of the CAI section of Parma from 1893 to 1935. The refuge has a kitchen service and 42 beds.

Pontremoli - shaking bridge - is the northernmost town in all of Tuscany and one of the most distinctive centers of Lunigiana. Built on a plain surrounded by hills and mountains, the city is a small jewel of artistic and monumental heritage. It is recognized by historians as the mythical Apua, the ancient capital of the Ligurian-Apuanian civilization. By crossing the medieval bridges and walking along the streets, you will find yourself in a mythical era. It is also a stop on the Via Francigena, the pilgrimage route that connects Canterbury in England with Rome.

Beautiful beautiful and fun. The first part is between curves and roots, then, having passed a small wooden bridge, the slope eases and becomes simpler and more linear.

The Ponte della Cresa is considered by many to be the true symbol of the city of Pontremoli. The etymology of the name Pontremoli, however, is traced back to the Latin Pons Tremulus, the insecure bridge, a term used to indicate the original city agglomeration. This bridge is located on the Verde stream and connects the two main streets of the medieval village, via Cavour to the north and via Mazzini to the south. It was built in wood at the beginning of the fourteenth century, then it was demolished and rebuilt at the end of the fourteenth century and, since then, despite the historical vicissitudes and floods to which it has been subjected, it has maintained the original structure in stone and brick. It should be remembered that under this bridge, in the month of January, the characteristic annual bonfire competition takes place between the two parishes of the city, that of San Geminiano and that of San Nicolò.

Simply beautiful trail, well maintained, clean and great the jump at the end. So beautiful that we had to go up the mountain a second time to do it again. Simple and fun.
