The Parco Archeologico di Luni is an important archaeological site in the Liguria region. The park houses the remains of the ancient Roman city of Luna, founded in 177 BC at the mouth of the river Magra. The Anfiteatro Romano di Luni is an important historical monument located in the archaeological zone of the National Archaeological Museum of Luni. It was built in the 2nd century AD, possibly during the Antonine period. The amphitheater was originally located on the coast, but the floods of the Magra River have changed the landscape and it is now about 2 kilometers from the sea. The amphitheater has an elliptical shape, with a major axis of 88.5 meters and a minor axis of 70.2 meters. It could accommodate up to 7,000 spectators and was mainly intended for animal and gladiator shows. The entire structure is made of cement conglomerate.
