A very curious place

The Parco Archeologico di Luni is an important archaeological site in the Liguria region. The park houses the remains of the ancient Roman city of Luna, founded in 177 BC at the mouth of the river Magra. The city of Luna was once a prosperous and powerful city, thanks to the exploitation of marble quarries and the marble trade. The archaeological site allows visitors to discover the remains of wealthy houses, public and religious buildings, and an impressive amphitheatre. The park includes several public areas of the Roman city, such as the forum, the Capitoline area and the Decumanus Maximus, the civil basilica, the curia and the Cardo Maximus, the Great Temple and some noble houses (Domus dei Mosaici, Domus Settentrionale, Domus degli Affreschi). The Museo Archeologico Nazionale e Zona Archeologica di Luni, which is part of the park, is the most important archaeological institution in Eastern Liguria, both for the size and the scientific significance of its collections. The museum is accessible to people with disabilities and families with pushchairs.

The Anfiteatro Romano di Luni is an important historical monument located in the archaeological zone of the National Archaeological Museum of Luni. It was built in the 2nd century AD, possibly during the Antonine period. The amphitheater was originally located on the coast, but the floods of the Magra River have changed the landscape and it is now about 2 kilometers from the sea. The amphitheater has an elliptical shape, with a major axis of 88.5 meters and a minor axis of 70.2 meters. It could accommodate up to 7,000 spectators and was mainly intended for animal and gladiator shows. The entire structure is made of cement conglomerate. However, some elements, such as the arches of the stairs and the main entrances, were clad in stone. Only the supporting elements of the stands have been preserved. These consist of two concentric rings of vaulted chambers.

One of the most important and ancient archaeological areas in the eastern Ligurian area, the history of ancient Luni has its Roman roots in the 2nd century BC.

Here, the Magra River flows into the sea. There's a bike path across the bridge. The surrounding landscape is very picturesque, with views stretching from Montemarcello to the Apuan Alps.

This place is not only a pizzeria where you can eat excellent pizzas and focaccias but it is also possible to visit the internal museum of the pizzeria where you can find unique vintage motorcycles.
