Romagna beautiful all year round

In the 13th century it was a possession of the Malatesta family, under whom the town managed to prosper until the abolition of feudalism at the dawn of the 19th century. After the brief Napoleonic period, the municipality passed to the Church in 1816, followed by the Risorgimento uprisings, the passage of Giuseppe Garibaldi and the annexation to the Kingdom of Italy. The etymology of the name Roncofreddo is uncertain, as are the origins of the town. The first documented information dates back to the documents of the Bavarian Code (an ancient administrative register of the Church of Ravenna dating back to the 7th-10th centuries, currently kept in Munich) where in n.70 mention is made of the concession by an archbishop of Ravenna to Tybalt , son of Leone del Duca Orso, of an estate called Fundum Roncofrigido. Ited for the first time in 1209, the Castle was in fact the residence of the Malatestas and ended up at the center of a dispute between the cities of Ravenna, Rimini and Cesena, settled by a diplomatic intervention by Federico Barbarossa. Different ownership changes: in addition to the Malatestas, we remember the Roverellas, the Galeffis and the Biffi Gentili who transformed it into a residence. The Gozzi family has lived there for at least two hundred years and have owned it since 1950 and in 1967, in one wing, they created a restaurant. And now Matteo Gozzi, after three years of closure, has reopened it to once again host customers who are passionate about history and good food in the name of hospitality.

Just outside the village of Montiano, on a hill from which you can enjoy a beautiful view, is the Parco delle Rimembranze: along the long staircase that leads to the top of the hill you reach the Monument to the Fallen, built in 1925 in memory of the fallen Montianese in the Great War. On the sides of the monument, the names of the fallen of the last war were subsequently added.
