Borgo di Calbano is a historic medieval village located near Sarsina, in Romagna. Perched on top of a hill, it has played a strategic defensive role since ancient times, first for the Umbrians and then for the Romans. The remains of its medieval fortifications, including sandstone blocks and bricks from the Roman era, are still visible today. In 1220, Emperor Frederick II granted the castrum Calbane to the Church of Sarsina, which held it until 1406, when it briefly fell under the control of the Malatesta family. The village also played a role in medieval government, as Bishop Grazia held general assemblies there in 1267 to deliberate on feudal rights and taxes. Today, Borgo di Calbano retains its ancient charm, with stone houses, medieval walls and the Church of Sant'Agostino, which enriches its historical character. It offers visitors a picturesque view of the surrounding landscape and remains a fascinating destination for history buffs and hikers.
