The forest and wet meadows in this area belong to the Lichtenhagen nature reserve. Until the 1970s, clay was dug out here for the production of roof tiles. After that, the water accumulated in the former clay pits and a diverse habitat with still waters, wet forests and heathland was created. Rare and particularly protected species of birds, amphibians and reptiles live here, such as the black-tailed lizard, sand lizard and moor frog.
