Castel Monforte dominates Campobasso from the city hill. It takes its name from Count Nicola II Monforte, who restored it in 1458 after an earthquake. The castle has a square plan with four corner towers and an internal courtyard. Today it is a national monument, venue for cultural events, and houses the Air Force meteorological station.

The cathedral of the Holy Trinity is the mother church of Campobasso and seat of the metropolitan archdiocese. It is worth a visit inside because it is full of frescoes, stained glass windows and a pipe organ. It was destroyed by the earthquake of 1805 and rebuilt in the neoclassical style in the 19th century.
