The Church of San Leo, in Africo Vecchio, is a jewel of Byzantine origin. Distinguished by its simple architecture and a marble statue from 1635, it was restored after the flood of '51 and has become a pilgrimage destination since 1972.

Following a landslide in 1973, the Fiumara Bonamico was blocked by debris and Lake Costantino was formed. However, over time this large basin became silted up, almost completely disappearing. Every time there was a strong storm, in fact, the sediments dragged by the water went to settle on the seabed, consequently reducing its capacity. Today, a very small portion remains.

At this point the path splits in two. To the left the road is more direct and steep through the Scaluni i Furraina, and offers beautiful views of the valley of the Ferraina torrent; to the right the route unwinds on the side of the Infernal Valley with a less pronounced slope. If you go up towards Croce di Dio Sia Lodato coming from Passo del Monaco, it is preferable to go up the path to the right (following the direction indicated by the sign), and then eventually go back down from the Scaluni on the way back, always paying attention to the uneven ground.

Africo Vecchio is a small ghost town surrounded by vegetation. It was finally abandoned after a flood in 1951.
