Whether the body of water is truly a reservoir or more like an Alsatian carp pond, I cannot and will not judge – the location at the very back of the Lützeltal valley and the beautiful nature all around is wonderful nonetheless.

The Lützel river is dammed here, and there are a few benches on the dam that invite you to take a break.

The Blochmont is the perfect Sunday ride pass for a tour through Alsace. Approaching from the north, you'll almost feel like you're in the Tour de France, as the gentle gradient means you can climb really fast. Enjoyable ascents alternate between forest and sunny sections. Reaching the farm at the top means you've completed the climb, though it's certainly not a job; this climb is pure enjoyment.

Always a way to cool down, especially in hot temperatures!

The Lützel flows from the town of Lucelle through the Jura mountains to the east towards Birs. The river meanders through the Lützel valley it created, which is varied and close to nature. Between Lucelle and Chlösterli, the Lützel forms the border between Switzerland and France. The road there runs alternately on the Swiss and French banks.

The old church, which dates from the 12th or 14th century, was destroyed in 1637. A new church was built in 1750, renovated in 1912 and restored by Jeanne Bueche, architect in Delémont, in 1958-1959. Merovingian sarcophagi were discovered. A Romanesque vault made of carved stone stands out today. The church of Develier has been decorated since 1958 with stained glass windows by the artist Roger Bissières from Lot et Garonne, France.

Far back in the Lucelle Valley you are greeted with this great sign at one of the countless unnoticed border crossings.
