The surface isn't the best, especially on the descent into the Heubach Valley, where there are a lot of fairly deep transverse cracks. In the Heubach Valley itself, the surface is excellent.

Currently (August 22, 2025), the upper section of the road has been patched with gravel. Driving on it is absolutely not recommended.

The inn is highly recommended. Note on the bus service: it has been discontinued since 2024 due to cost-cutting measures. The nearest bus stop on weekends is on Triberger Straße in Schonach, about 2.5 km away (note for hikers on the 7th stage of the Westweg: you only have to walk downhill). Bus 550 runs from there to Triberg train station, which connects to the Black Forest Railway.

A cute little brewery with a beer garden that invites you to linger. I highly recommend the semi-dark beer 🍺.
