The Rupperswil bicycle bridge offers beautiful views over the floodplain landscape. It's worth stopping for.

The Bad Säckingen wooden bridge connects the German town of Bad Säckingen with the municipality of Stein in Switzerland (known in Stein as the "wooden bridge over the Rhine"). At 203.7 meters (206.5 meters with canopies), it is the longest covered wooden bridge in Europe. This makes it longer than the Chapel Bridge in Lucerne, which is 202.9 meters (204.7 meters with canopies) (Wikipedia).

Laufenburg was first documented in 1173, when the monastery in Säckingen granted the town as a fief to the Habsburgs. The first documented mention of Loufenberc dates back to 1207; the place name means "mountain near the waterfall, near the whirlpool, near the rapids" (Wikipedia).

The view is dominated on the right by the Farnsberg hill, with the bright, light-colored ruins of Farnsburg Castle perched on its upper slope, visible from afar. A visit to the ruins is highly recommended. From up here, the view sweeps down to the village of Hemmiken and further into the Jura Mountains.

Laufenburg is a small but beautifully preserved town right on the Rhine. There isn't a huge amount to see, but what there is is lovely.

Always beautiful on the Aare

The ascent to the top of the tower leads first via a narrow spiral staircase, then up a solid steel staircase to the tower platform. Caution! The view from the top of the tower is limited. The high surrounding wall and the exit of the stairwell prevent a clear 360° view. Kids, in particular, will miss out on this and will probably be disappointed.
