As soon as the newly purchased quarry was put into operation by the community in 1826, it played its biggest prank on the people of Wendelsheim. When the stonemasons arrived at work in the morning after a night of thunderstorms, there was water - a single lake! With difficulty they found their tools underwater. Unfortunately, the 3 meter deep lake no longer disappeared and so in 1836 it was decided to dig a 6 meter deep canal for 900 guilders, which would drain the water over the Reutegraben to the Gairenbühl. But no matter what action was taken, the water remained. When the current quarry was opened at the turn of the century, the old one was finally abandoned.
