The forest area in the FriedWald Bramsche-Osnabrücker Land - FriedWald Bramsche for short - impresses with a large variety of tree species. In the approximately 51 hectare FriedWald, burials can be carried out under old oaks and beeches. The hornbeams in particular characterize this cemetery: they are summer green, have slightly jagged leaves and hanging flowers, so-called catkins. The consolation bench has been in the forest cemetery since 2024. Many people find the forest comforting, and conversations can also help with coping with grief. The new consolation bench in the Bramsche-Osnabrücker Land forest cemetery combines both. The Bramsche Hospice Association donated the wooden bench and offers an open conversation time there every month. A flag stand on the bench signals that someone is there - every third Monday of the month from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., volunteers from the Bramsche Hospice Association sit on the bench and are open for conversation and exchange. It is already the fourth consolation bench in Bramsche and the surrounding area. In addition to other cemeteries, there is also a bench at Hasesee, for example. On the way through the Kettelsberg you can even find isolated specimens of the yew (Taxus baccata), which is one of the rare conifers in the forest. A typical growth location for the yew is often in the shelter of a beech population. It is extremely shade-tolerant and slow-growing (only 1 to 3 cm per year). The yew is dioecious, that is: the male and female flowers are not on the same tree. Of the native conifer species, it can reach the highest age at around 3000 years.
