Entrance to the wooden bridge in the municipality of Stein (CH)

At 204 meters, the Bad Säckingen wooden bridge is the longest covered wooden bridge in Europe. Since the Middle Ages, it has been repeatedly destroyed by floods, ice, and wars, and rebuilt several times. It served as an escape route to Switzerland during times of crisis, such as 1848 and 1945. In 2014, secret Swiss military explosives depots were removed from its pillars.

You can climb up a small path from the lakeside to the left of the rock. There's a small seating area at the top, but the view of the lake is largely overgrown. Please note: the path down the back, away from the lake, is only accessible for the first few meters, then it falls into disrepair and is completely overgrown.

Beautiful small town in Switzerland

The mountain lake is a small lake at 382 m above sea level. It is a natural lake up to 13 m deep, which was altered by human hands in 1802 and 1803. At that time, it was called the Black Lake.

The "Fools' Fountain" depicts the figures of the Bad Säckingen carnival: the "Römer," the "Siechenmännle," the "Maisenhardt Jeggele," and the "Hüüler." The fountain was made of Jurassic limestone in 1972 by Rheinfelden sculptor Leonard Eder.
