"The bronze sculpture of the Crown Prince was erected in 1903 directly in front of the city-side entrance to the palace park. It was created by the Berlin sculptor Gottlieb Elster. The figure shows the later Prussian King Frederick II. In his younger years, from 1736 to 1740, he lived in Rheinsberg Palace. Here he cultivated a variety of muses and eagerly studied literature. His bronze image therefore rests on a stack of books. In 1950, the monument was removed and stored in Potsdam-Sanssouci.
