The ideal starting point for a walk around the Rursee (approx. 27km). It is also not far to the Urft Dam (approx. 4km) and the former Nazi Ordensburg Vogelsang (approx. 10km).

The Paulusdamm near the town of Rurberg separates the (actual) Rursee from the Obersee. The latter begins at Einruhr, where the Rur - coming from Monschau or further up the Belgian Fens - flows into the Obersee. This is a valuable water protection area and supplies many people in the greater Aachen area with drinking water. The Rursee below is also used by many water sports enthusiasts. The banks of the Obersee and Rursee are partly part of the Eifel National Park.

With the construction of the Rurtalsperre 1934-1938 and its expansion 1955-1959, a large part of the old Woffelsbach in the Rursee disappeared. At the same time, tourism in Woffelsbach began, initially in the 1930s and received a significant boost with the second expansion phase of the Rurtalsperre (1955-1959) and the founding of the Yacht Club Rursee in 1956. Today, Woffelsbach is home to more than 15 sailing clubs. Camping sites, sailing schools, apartments and private weekend houses were built. In the years 2012 to 2014, a new center with parks directly on the lake and a lakeside terrace with a lakeside stage was created.

Worth seeing barrier system, the Rurtalsperre and the Rursee is definitely worth a trip.
