The Ihlsee and Ihlwald nature reserve is located in the district of Segeberg and can be found on the northern outskirts of Bad Segeberg. The Ihlsee is characterized by a number of special features. It is one of the few nutrient-poor and lime-poor lakes in Schleswig-Holstein and thus offers a home to rare aquatic plants. The area has been under nature protection since 1950 and was reported as a fauna-flora habitat in 2006. The Ihlwald, also known as Bruchwald, which borders the Ihlsee to the south, can be explored on a hiking trail. The forest itself is completely natural, apart from a few interventions that are necessary due to traffic safety on the hiking trail. The forest area consists of deciduous forest and wet forest.
