In near-total silence, we stroll across the grounds, savoring the moment. The church shines in all its glory, bathed in the rays of the autumn sun. We enter the church; a service is in progress, and it's noticeable that Sorbian is still actively spoken here. We don't want to disturb them any further. We continue our walk through the grounds, reach the monastery café, and take a seat. After a while, we head back outside and are surprised by a flood warning sign. A few meters away, the Klosterwasser stream babbles along, almost like a brook, several meters below. We return to the church. Now, after the service, let's take another look inside. It's built in the Late Gothic style. The interior is beautiful, too, with a view of the altar and the interplay of red and white tones. The gallery is lined with statues. The 40-meter-high tower is visible from afar and dominates the city's skyline. Yet one thing is clear: the secular building is not intended to overshadow the sacred main church. Amidst the red of the town hall, the golden clock immediately catches the eye. Likewise, the decorative coat of arms of the city of Kamenz, in the form of a relief coat of arms beneath the clock. Directly above the entrance is a counter commemorating the city's 800th anniversary. Starting at 800 on August 22, 2022, it counted backward 800 days to the beginning of the anniversary year on January 1, 2025, and has been counting upwards ever since. The Kamenz town hall in its red dress right on the market square is very nice to look at and has been renovated. A real eye-catcher.
