Muggensturm residents greatly value and honor this magnificent avenue of linden trees. It connects the village to the cemetery with the Margaret Chapel. It's a "connection from life to the afterlife." When I was young, this path was designed as a poplar avenue. Along this "final journey," the deceased citizens of Muggensturm were driven directly to the burial site on specially decorated horses and hearses, accompanied by the mourners. Morgues like today, with their refrigerated rooms, didn't exist back in the 1950s.
