Beautiful bridge – a real eye-catcher by day and by night. A great photo opportunity from different perspectives.

This memorial stone marks the former site of Scharfeneck Castle near Baiersdorf. The inscription on the stone provides information about the history of the castle and its inhabitants. Details about Scharfeneck Castle Location: The memorial stone stands on the site where Scharfeneck Castle once stood, near the ERH 5 road towards Baiersdorf. History: From 1406, the castle was the residence of the Burgraves of Nuremberg. Notable resident: Margrave Johann the Alchemist died here in 1464. Destruction: First destroyed in 1553. Rebuilt in 1627. Destroyed again in 1632. Current state: The ruins were demolished in 1892, which is why only the memorial stone now commemorates the former structure.

The Protestant parish church of St. Oswald and Martin, with its striking tower, dominates the townscape of Möhrendorf. The oldest parts of the tower date back to the first half of the 15th century, while the nave was added later, in the 16th/17th centuries. Originally, the church likely served as a fortified church to protect the population in times of unrest. The interior of the church houses remarkable furnishings, including an altar from 1710, into which the pulpit is integrated, and a baptismal angel from 1709. Another special feature is the historic organ from 1715. Today, St. Oswald and Martin Church, often simply called "St. Martin's Church," is used primarily for funerals, baptisms, and weddings. The main services take place in the larger St. Laurentius Church, built in 1973. St. Oswald and Martin Church is thus a historically significant building and an important site for the parish in Möhrendorf.

The paths around the ponds are a bit narrower – not recommended if it has rained beforehand, as they are too muddy.

In the uncertain times of the late Middle Ages, churches had to fulfill another important function besides holding services: defending against enemies. Thus, a fortified church gradually emerged, offering protection against warlike attacks. The square choir tower and the adjoining nave were probably built in the first half of the 15th century, while the defensive wall was erected in the second half of the same century. In the following centuries, the interior of St. Oswald/St. Martin Church progressed. Galleries were added. In the 18th century, like many margravial churches of that time, the church received a pulpit altar, of which nothing remains in its original form today. The first organ was also added in 1715. The first two bells were purchased in the 17th century. As the population of Möhrendorf grew, the church gradually became too small to serve as a parish church. It wasn't until 1970 that plans to build a new church were realized, and it was completed in 1973 (see our St. Laurentius Church). Since the renovation of St. Oswald/St. Martin Church, which lasted from 1978 to 1980, it has been used primarily as a cemetery church for funerals, but increasingly also for weddings, baptisms, and as a venue for spiritual concerts. One of the highlights of the church year should not be forgotten: the Easter Vigil, which is celebrated festively early in the morning at St. Oswald/St. Martin. To this day, many residents rightly consider this beautiful church to be a secret landmark of Möhrendorf and a gem worth preserving in a rapidly changing environment.
