Püchau Castle rises on the eastern edge of the town on a mountain spur that towers several meters above the Mulde floodplain. The castle itself stands at the eastern end of the approximately 100 by 60 meter area. The square in front of it is lined with outbuildings, a few trees, and has a historic fountain at its center. The castle is an irregular three-wing complex grouped around an approximately 200 m² courtyard. The north side is enclosed by a one-story, crenellated battlement. In the southeast corner of the courtyard, a stair tower, also crenellated, rises above the three-story buildings. The entrance to the complex, designed as a bridge and flanked by two columns with eagles, leads to an arched gateway in the west wing. This is decorated with balconies and attached turrets on the front side. The outer southeast corner is also tower-like and features a two-story cast-iron balcony. Of the numerous rooms of the castle, the small dining room with its richly carved ceiling, the Marble Hall with its magnificent star-shaped ceiling[1], and the Armory are particularly magnificent. The Temple of Hygieia was built in 1797 as the last building in the Machern Castle Park by Carl Count von Lindenau.

In 1795/1796, the knight's castle was built in the artificial ruin style as a park setting in the Machern landscape garden by Carl Heinrich August Graf von Lindenau. It dominates the surroundings like a bastion and offers a wonderful view when the weather is clear. The "knight's castle" was intended to be an authentic monument from medieval times due to its appearance. If you like things spooky, you can explore the interior as part of a guided tour of the park. This is an artificial ruin complex with a shooting range, bridge and staircase as well as a stone arch gate, rock wall and long stone bench, which was created to beautify the park. The building is named in honor of the Prussian King Frederick William II, who visited the park in 1792. Just a few steps away from the knight's castle is the sandstone pyramid clad in dark red porphyry. Two plaster lions flank the entrance, which is designed as a Doric gable porch. The pyramid was intended to serve as a count's mausoleum, but was never used as such. An ingenious system of hidden openings between the interior and the crypt below, as well as two side corridors, may have served Masonic-Rosicrucian rituals.
