If you've seen any flyers about the Upper Vinschgau 360-degree panoramic trail, there you have it: the famous swing, which can be seen in many pictures. Great for children (and the occasional adult), while others can enjoy the spectacular panorama (including the Ortler Group, the Sesvenna Group, and valley towns like Mals, Glurns, Prad, Laatsch, and Taufers). Also great: next to the swing is an information board naming the various peaks.

Wooden sculpture of the headless Lorgg, as well as an information panel about the legend: A hundred years ago, an eerie ghost was seen in Mals: the Lorgg, a gigantic, black man with a triangular hat. The Lorgg usually carried his head under his arm and, with mighty strides, roamed restlessly through the dark village streets at night until the bell rang in the morning. He harmed no one, but if he found grass or fruit thieves, he chased them away and pursued them to their houses. He particularly enjoyed drunks. He usually jumped on them from behind and let them carry him piggyback for long distances. Late one evening, a farmer and his wife were mowing in the Runk meadows above the village. Suddenly, the Lorgg came straight up the steep meadow and walked very close to the two of them. The couple were so frightened that they could not move for a long time. Another time, some mischievous young men threw stones at him. Full of rage, he pursued them, roaring horribly. One of the boys jumped into his room, window frame included, while the others reached a field cross, which they clung to for dear life. Only when the Angelus bell rang in the morning did the enraged Lorgg disappear. The night watchman, who often encountered him in a narrow alleyway in the upper village and pressed himself against the wall in fear to allow him to pass unmolested, made several crosses with mortar on the alleyway walls. From that time on, he never saw Lorgg again. The alley is still commonly called "Lorggaßl" today.

The central town of the municipality of Mals features a pedestrian zone in the center and several historic buildings. It's also worth exploring the alleys away from the center, as you'll also find some lovingly restored houses there.

Ruins of the Fröhlichsburg Castle, originally built in the 12th/13th century, with the remains of the walls and the large Fröhlichsturm tower. The Fröhlichsturm once belonged to a 12th-century castle in Mals, built by the Lords of Mals – hence its original name: Malsburg. The former residential building now only remains as a ruin. The tower is 33.5 meters high and also has a circumference of 33 meters. From the 14th century onwards, the castle served as the seat of justice for the Bishop of Chur. The name of the castle (and thus of the preserved tower) comes from the Lords of Fröhlich, into whose ownership it subsequently passed. According to legend, the stones of the castle were removed to expand the parish church in the 19th century. A series of small wall openings halfway up the tower still give an idea of the fact that a battlement once led around the keep.
