Brakel Town Hall dates back to the 13th century. The entrance was even further back then. Today, the openwork stepped gable with quatrefoils is particularly striking. On the south side, there is an ornately designed Renaissance-style portal from 1573, with a basket arch and decorated ashlar frame – an impressive example of the architectural skill of this period.

When the Model Federal Railway was built, the main focus was not on building the largest or most famous model railway in the world. The aim was to create the most authentic model railway exhibition in H0 gauge. The Model Federal Railway is an idea and a concept to preserve the (steam) railway for posterity as it was seen on the German Federal Railway in the summer of 1975. However, it is 87 times smaller. In miniature, the Model Federal Railway helps the black fellows to do new things! Ten years of scientific research paved the way for the start of construction in 2004. You can guess that if you want to understand the Model Federal Railway, you have to be able to understand its complexity. What is actually the core message, what makes the Model Federal Railway so special? The Model Federal Railway represents such a different miniature world that one could come to a single conclusion. Even laypeople can understand the simplest, most obvious things at first glance, and you often hear: “It doesn't look like an ordinary model railway.” When asked “why?”, people struggle for words. The answer is usually: "It's just different from what we know!" Even without a deeper understanding of the exhibition, the trains and many small interactive games bring joy to the family audience. Experts, however, look at the model federal railway with different eyes. They are less interested in the functional models, but rather in the prototypical operating processes and their realistically reproduced environment. "For the drawing of the Ottberg engine shed, I counted every brick individually so that the 15-stall roundhouse could be correctly implemented in a kit," explains Bernard Huguenin from the planning staff emphatically. 900 wagons, 80 locomotives, 216 switches, 1,100 meters of track, 1,500 trees, 2,500 bushes, kilometers of cables, several thousand lights and lamps (mostly LEDs) and around 7,000 inhabitants.
