Sempach has a great little old town, it's worth a visit!

Great monument right next to the church in Sempach

The fountain head and lion date back to 1550, while the granite basin dates back to the 17th century. Until the construction of the high-pressure water supply in 1891, the city of Sempach's water supply relied primarily on its city fountains and their various springs. Of these fountains, the Town Hall Fountain, among others, still exists today. In 1555, the Lucerne Council authorized the city of Sempach to build a fountain. The fountain head and lion (the original of the lion is in the Town Hall Museum) date back to 1550, while the granite basin dates back to the 17th century (renovated in 1927). The former town hall is a timber-framed structure, yet impressive both in its massive appearance and its prominent location on the widest, square-like part of the town street. On the city street near St. Stephen's Church, a round column stands on a square base, topped by a seated lion. The column has a circular inscription at the top and bottom; two sides of the base each have two carved coats of arms, and the other sides have an inscription. Information panel next to the column.
