A beautiful barefoot path surrounds this juniper grove

Due to the drought of the summer of 2018, the small Hopstener Aa, or Mühlen-Aa, dried up for several weeks. In August and September, due to the low water level, no water flowed over the weir on Rheiner Straße in Hopsten. All the water, which was already very small, flowed slightly upstream at the bifurcation into the Giegel Aa. In the dry riverbed, the fish gathered in the remaining pools and were rescued by the local fishing club through relocation.[5]

Conservation of wet meadow complexes, particularly with litter meadows or extensively used wet meadows, near-natural moors, silting zones of standing waters with sparse reed beds or sedge marshes, habitats without hazards such as overhead power lines, conservation of temporarily flooded depressions, wet arable areas and permanently water-bearing ditches, grass, reed and herbaceous borders, and conservation of undisturbed or at least low-disturbance breeding sites during the breeding season from 15 February to 15 August

Looking at this picture of the highlight, I definitely have to drive along here again in the summer. But even without leaves on the trees, this avenue had its charm in March :)

It's nice to see how the river is allowed to develop naturally again here :)

To the east of the Great Holy Sea is the Small Holy Sea, which is privately owned but also protected. To the southwest are the sinkhole lake and the Heideweiher pond. The sinkhole lake was formed on April 14, 1913, during the last major sinkhole in the protected area.
