The Slavic hillfort in Plau am See, often referred to as the hillfort at Burgsee, is a Middle Slavic ringfort dating from the 9th/10th century on the eastern shore of Burgsee lake. The well-preserved, wooded rampart is an important archaeological monument, indicating early settlement and yielding finds of Feldberg and Menkendorf pottery.

The Plauer Stadtwald lies at an altitude of 62 to 80 m above sea level, immediately south of the town of Plau am See. The nature reserve is characterized by Ice Age drainage channels and ridges. In the area lie a Slavic Burgwall as well as remains of landwehr and an old grain farm in the village of Gaarz. Due to the good accessibility and the proximity to the city, the Plau city forest is ideal for local recreation. The area is served by Foot and cycle paths as well as a nature trail criss-crossed.
