The wild garlic season begins (with regional variations) around mid-March. This is when the succulent, garlic-scented leaves sprout from the ground. The season ends with the wild garlic's flowering period, around the beginning of May.

Wild garlic is a plant species in the Allium genus and is thus related to chives, onions, and garlic. This common, early-sprouting plant, which is widespread in Europe and parts of Asia, especially in forests, is a prized wild vegetable and widely collected.
