The approximately 62-hectare "Heidkupplungmoor and surroundings" has been a nature reserve since 1995. The area is characterized by a high diversity of biotopes typical of the natural area and is home to numerous, sometimes rare animal and plant species. The Heidkupplungmoor is an intermediate moor that is still open in the center and was mined using the manual peat cutting method up until the 1950s. After rewetting in the 1990s, the moor vegetation began to regenerate. The structurally rich environment consists of low moorland, species-rich wet grassland, extensive lean grassland and bushy fallow / perennial corridors. In addition to smaller, near-natural forest stands, large areas of newly established woody plantations are growing.
