The Ellerau Evangelical Lutheran Church is a member of the North Elbian Evangelical Lutheran Church and belongs to the Hamburg Diocese. The congregation currently has approximately 2,300 members. The Liether Kalkgrube is a former open-cast mine where limestone was mined. The Kalkgrube is geologically very interesting because the oldest rock layers in northern Germany come to the surface here. These layers were formed around 250 million years ago, in the Permian period. They consist mainly of limestone, claystone and sandstone.

The Liether Kalkgrube is located in the district of Pinneberg, east of the town of Klein Nordende. It is a former open-cast mine that was closed in 1986. The area was designated a nature reserve in 1991 and was awarded a "National Geotop" in 2006. (Source: Wikipedia)

Even before reaching the Himmelsmoor, the landscape is swampy. From the north-east, paths lead to the moor, which are natural and mostly run over moorland. When you walk, you get a slightly drunk impression - no wonder, the ground trembles with every step! An incredibly beautiful feeling.
