The Bittermark is a historically and ecologically important forest area in the south of Dortmund. It stretches between the districts of Kirchhörde, Lücklemberg and Wichlinghofen and is particularly popular as a local recreation area where you can go for a walk, jog or cycle. The landscape is characterized by old beech and oak forests, crossed by natural streams such as the Olpkebach and the Bittermarksbach. The Bittermark has a dark history: During the Second World War, especially in the last weeks of the war in 1945, numerous forced laborers and resistance fighters were murdered here by the Gestapo. In memory of the approximately 300 victims, the Bittermark Memorial stands in the forest, which was inaugurated in 1960. It is a central memorial for the victims of National Socialism in Dortmund. In addition, the Bittermark has a mining past. In the adjacent forests, coal seams were mined close to the surface, and remains such as pits and old tunnels are still visible today. In some places, iron-rich mine water comes to the surface, indicating earlier coal mining. In addition to its historical significance, the area also offers a valuable natural landscape with a diverse flora and fauna. It is an important retreat for those seeking relaxation in Dortmund and at the same time a protected area for the local flora and fauna.

Mostly located in the lower part of the park, between the Olpkebach and Bittermarksbach. In the upper area near the AB 45 underpass there are also a few hidden trails.

Still not passable. Trees are lying everywhere.

I should have read DirkS' tip earlier. I was there on October 29th, 2022 and had to realize that the route is still not passable. I then dodged south through the forest and came to the second path shown on the map. From there, the route to the inhabited area was quite easy to drive.
