Impressive ancestral castle of the Liechtenstein family. The tour is highly recommended, and admission is included in the NÖ Card.

2月 21, 2024, Matterhörndl
The Matterhörndl is a small but impressive rock in the Vienna Woods that is perfect for a short rest. It is a little hidden away from the main path and easy to miss, but it is worth the visit. With a small opening through and the opportunity to climb around a bit, it is a mystical place for photographers, children and nature lovers. I visited this mountain as part of my Dwarf Mountain Tours series. My goal is to climb every mountain in the Vienna Woods. The Liesingbach is gradually being renatured in order to create new habitats for a variety of plants and animals. This is particularly visible in this area.

The Triesting - Schwechat estuary is the place where the Triesting flows into the Schwechat. The Triesting is a river in the southeastern Vienna Woods, which rises near Kaumberg and is 60 km long. The Schwechat is a tributary of the Danube that rises near Schottwien and is 62 km long. The estuary is near Achau in the Mödling district and is a popular resting place for cyclists. You can reach the estuary on various cycle paths, for example from Wiener Neudorf or from Wien Meidling. The area is very rich in water and also offers other highlights such as the Laxenburg Palace Park or the Kaiser Franz Joseph Park.

The Triesting is a river in the southeastern Vienna Woods, which flows into the Schwechat near Achau. The Schwechat is a tributary of the Danube that rises in the Vienna Alps. The Triesting is 60 km long and has a catchment area of 388 km². The Schwechat is 62 km long and has a catchment area of 678 km². The mouth of the Triesting in the Schwechat is a bike highlight that you can reach on various bike paths. There is a cycle and footpath along the flood protection wall, which can also be used as a viewing platform. You can take a nice break here and enjoy nature. You can also observe the water that divides here: the Schwechat continues to flow as the Mitterbach and the Schwechat-Werksbach, which only reunite in Schwechat. I hope this information was helpful to you. If you want to learn more about the Triesting or the Schwechat, you can also have a look at the Wikipedia pages. There you will also find information about the history, culture and sights along the rivers. Or you look at some bike tours that lead you to beautiful places like Berndorf, Laxenburg or Lanzendorf Castle.

The renaturation of the Liesingbach is a project of the City of Vienna, which aims to redesign the river in a way that is close to nature and to improve flood protection. The Liesingbach flows 18.4 km through the city of Vienna and flows into the Danube Canal1 at Alberner Hafen. The first half of the Liesingbach was gradually renatured from 1997, the second half has been redesigned since 2020. The renaturation of the Liesingbach is taking place in six parts, which should be completed by the end of 2027. The first component was completed in April 2021 and covers the section between Karl-Sarg-Gasse and Rudolf-Waisenhorn-Gasse in the 23rd district. The second part is scheduled to start in November 2022 and will cover the section between Großmarktstraße and Gutheil-Schoder-Gasse. The other components will be tackled in the following years. The renaturation of the Liesingbach brings many advantages for people and nature. The bank areas will be flattened, planted and provided with stones and rootstocks to create habitats for animals and plants. The water quality will be improved by building an additional rainwater channel. Flood protection is increased by hydraulic engineering modifications being made to the retention basins. The residents benefit from more green space by the water, which invites you to walk, cycle or relax

The confluence of the Triesting and the Schwechat is an interesting place where several rivers and streams meet. The Triesting is a river in the south-eastern Vienna Woods, which flows into the Schwechat near Achau. The Schwechat has two rivers, the Mitterbach and the Schwechat-Werksbach, which only reunite in Schwechat itself. At the mouth of the Triesting, the Mödlingbach and the Krottenbach also flow into the old Schwechatlauf coming from Laxenburg. The estuary is a popular destination for bike tours and offers a nice rest area with the opportunity to swim.

5月 11, 2023, Burg Liechtenstein
Location description Liechtenstein Castle is located south of Maria Enzersdorf on the edge of the former Liechtenstein Landscape Park about 300 m above sea level on the edge of the Vienna Woods in the Föhrenberge Nature Park, about 75 meters above the center of Maria Enzersdorf. It is built on an extremely narrow rock ridge north of the Kalenderberg, which runs east-west and consists of dark (but light weathering) Gutenstein limestone, Reichenhall Rauhwacke and Steinalm limestone. At the southern foot of the castle hill, in a Baden conglomerate gully on the northeast edge of the Gaaden Basin, stands Liechtenstein Castle, which was built at a later date.

Liechtenstein Castle, the ancestral seat of the Princes of Liechtenstein on the edge of the southern Vienna Woods, is not a museum in the traditional sense, but rather a place steeped in history, but at the same time extremely lively, which attracts thousands of visitors from all over the world every year.

The current castle complex was completely renovated by the House of Liechtenstein in the 19th century and is still owned by them today, as a temporary family museum. The castle thus also represents 900 years of family history. With over 60% Romanesque building material, the princely ancestral castle is one of the few Romanesque secular buildings that have been preserved.

8月 9, 2021, Confluence of Triesting and Schwechat
The so-called imperial indulgences in Achau, located at the confluence of the Schwechat, Triesting and Mödlingbach rivers, date from the time of Emperor Karl VI. and Empress Maria Theresa. The weir system was rebuilt between 1998 and 2002 for flood protection. The client was the Republic of Austria. The course of the many rivers and streams in this "water-rich" part of the Vienna Basin is quite complicated: Above is the Laxenburg Palace Park, the Laxenburg Canal, which branches off from the Triesting in Münchendorf, and from the Heidbach, which branches off the Schwechat in the Baden area - also called Badner Mühlbach - flows through. The Laxenburg canal culverts the Schwechat south-east of the palace gardens. In Achau, the Krottenbach, the Mödlingbach and the outflow from the pond in the Laxenburg Palace Park, the Lobenbach, first come together. The Schwechat - also called "Aubach" here - and the Triesting follow immediately afterwards. The Schwechat - the new name for all flowing waters - in turn has two rivers, the Mitterbach - the name for the Schwechat below the imperial indulgences to Schwechat - and the original Schwechat, i.e. the Schwechat-Werksbach. Only in Schwechat itself, at the confluence of the Liesingbach, do these waters unite again to form the Schwechat. (from a writing by SC Maria Lanzendorf)
