Goldbergsee, a 145-hectare reservoir, was originally created as a flood control basin. Today, it is one of the most popular recreational areas in Coburg. The lake was created at the end of 2010. Since then, it has become a popular destination for day trips. The idyllic surroundings offer beautiful views of the majestic Callenberg Castle, which overlooks the lake, and the Glender Wiesen bird sanctuary.

The path around the Goldbergsee can be enjoyed at any time of year. Many water birds can be observed, part of the path leads through the forest, the rest along the lake. If you prefer peace and quiet, you should come during the week, as it can get crowded at the weekend.

If possible during the week, because meanwhile the weekend is very busy.

The Goldbergsee on the edge of the Coburg districts of Neuses and Beiersdorf is a 145-hectare reservoir that was designed as a flood retention basin and is included in the overall flood protection concept for Coburg and the Itzgrund. Preliminary work began in 2003, construction started in 2006. The damming followed from the end of 2010.

Beautiful natural lake with a pleasant circular hiking trail equipped with many information boards which creatures are native here.

You can climb up - but you should be sure of walking.

At the moment there are no guided tours because of Coronna, unfortunately. But it is all well suited for going for a walk and enjoying yourself. My tip. Going for a walk in the park followed by a coffee (they have good cakes) is fun and in a good mood.
