The wooden Biesterwied lookout tower offers a beautiful view over the reed marsh of Tetjehorn and the Schildmeer. At a height of six meters you can spot rare birds, deer and foxes in this peaceful nature reserve. The canals have been replaced by four ponds and on the place where the ramparts used to be, there is now an English-style park with height differences. The Noorderplantsoen was designated in its entirety as a national monument in 1971. The pavilion and music dome are also protected as national monuments.
