According to the Gazetteer-Statistical-Historical Dictionary of Spain and its Overseas possessions by Pascual Madoz, this enclave has also been known as the Cerro de Nímar. This summit played an important role in the geodetic connection between Europe and Africa, when in 1878, the engineer and general of the Army Carlos Ibáñez de Ibero had to spend two months at the summit to establish the geodesic connection with Algeria.
