2月 20, 2020, Troopers Hill Chimney
Troopers Hill Nature Reserve affords breathtaking views over Bristol and the River Avon. The chimney on top of the hill was used for copper smelting in the 18th century. In the 19th century, coal and fireclay were mined from the hill. These days, the hillside boasts a wonderful mix of wildflowers, wildlife, and history. The park, which has won the Green Flag Award every year since 2007, is a great place for relaxation and recreation.

2月 20, 2020, Golden Valley Nature Reserve Waterfall
Between 1892-1970 this landscape was a hotbed of industry. Ochre, a natural clay earth pigment, was quarried and refined here. These days, the once-industrial landscape has been reclaimed by nature, albeit with some telltale signs of its past, and is now a haven for wildlife. Keep a lookout for birds, including kestrels, kingfishers, goshawks, and greenfinches. Frogs, toads, and grass snakes can also be observed, as well as foxes, squirrels, badgers, rabbits, water voles and many more. There is also a herd of goats in the reserve.

1月 3, 2019, Uley Bury Iron Age Hill Fort
This is an extraordinarily well-preserved example of an Iron Age hill fort. From the fort, you are rewarded with incredible views over the Frome Valley, Severn Vale and the Welsh mountains. The Romans strengthened the fort for use as a camp to support their western frontier. In AD 577, the Saxon army used the fort as a camp before the Battle of Dyrham; a decisive military encounter between the West Saxons and the Britons of the West Country. The battle was a major victory for the Wessex forces.
