Hike a bike for me on my gravel bike to get up here from the west but worth it, the views are stunning and the archeology very interesting

Pronounced Bynol. Not much is known of this place. Unsure whether a mid age Castle or Iron age Hillfort. Impressive though. Pics don't do any justice to the scale of the place. Go visit and you'll see it differently

It's thought that these earthworks were originally an Iron Age hillfort before being subsequently used as a Norman motte and bailey castle. It's easy to see why you'd build here, the views are exceptional and the location is a natural promontory. The earthworks are still very much apparent, and give the hill a fascinating, lumpy characteristic.

A great climb that is fairly amenable in the gradient... it goes on for a fair bit though. Would be a good training ground for those wish to get into longer, harder climbs.

Barbury Castle is a well-preserved Iron Age hill fort. The site was first occupied around 2,500 years ago and has been used by the Romans, the Saxons, and even played a role in the Second World War. From the fort, you are afforded wonderful views over the landscape. In clear conditions, you can see the Cotswolds and the River Severn.

My heart rate was 165 on this climb. LOL. No .... I did not stop. I just twiddled the pedals because I knew I would never get going again if I did stop. Don't like walking if out with my bike. Good for views and heart rate workout. LOL

The Cherhill White Horse is the second oldest in Wiltshire being cut in 1780, possibly inspired by the horse at Westbury cut two years earlier. There is a far older horse at Uffington Castle in Oxfordshire which is thought to date back to the Bronze Age some 3000 years ago. The Cherhill horse was made under the guidance of Dr Christopher Alsop of Calne who gave instructions by megaphone from a distance. At one time there were 13 white horses in Wiltshire now only 8 survive due to lack of management. The Cherhill horse which is looked after by the local Parish Council underwent some serious restoration in 2002. The outline needed to be re-cut and 160 tonnes of fresh chalk was packed on to the horse held in place by wooden boarding. Now the horse is maintained by weeding and re-chalking every two years which is done by the Cherhill White Horse Restoration Group with the help of the local scout group. www.nationaltrust.org.uk/calstone-and-cherhill-downs/features/cherhill-white-horse
