Wakehurst, a stately home and botanical garden in West Sussex, is owned by the National Trust but managed by the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. The mansion is from the late 16th century and the garden from the 20th century. The grounds also include Kew's Millennium Seed Bank. Four lakes form the heart of the garden and at the end of the line of sight the Gothic castle rises on a hill. While you can explore all the paths in the garden and the adjacent parkland, the house is privately owned and cannot be visited. The design of the park and the expansion of the house were initiated by John Holroyd at the end of the 19th century. He and his wife spent a fortune to design the property according to their ideas. The park and garden were further designed according to the original plans by subsequent owners. Finally, the National Trust acquired the site and now looks after it. The current opening times and further information can be found here: https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/visit/sussex/sheffield-park-and-garden.

Looking towards the slopes of the Downs escarpment on this section of your ride, you’ll see a wooded V on the hillside. Over 3,000 trees were planted here in 1887 to mark Queen Victoria’s Golden Jubilee.

Rising to a maximum height of 206 metres (676 ft), Wolstonbury Hill projects into the weald from the main ridge of the South Down giving views of both the Downs and the Weald. Views across the Weald to the north are panoramic, to the east are the Clayton Windmills and Ditching beacon is Visible beyond. Looking west one can see Newtimber Hill, West Hill with Devil's Dike just beyond, further out Chanctonbury Ring is clearly visible. quite a challenging walk coming from the north however you are treated with great views from the Top and access to other sections of the South Downs.

This free landscaped garden was created by the famous landscape architect "Capability" Brown back in the 18th century and further perfected by owner Arthur G Soames in the twentieth century. From spring to early summer you can experience a magical spring show of daffodils, blue-flowered blooms, flowering rhododendrons and azaleas. The center of the garden and park are four larger lakes, in which trees, shrubs, waterfalls and sky reflect picturesque. Source: Welcome to Great Britain
