The area around the mouth of the Trigno River and the Marina di Montenero, where the river meets the sea, is home to numerous bird species and riparian vegetation. The site is protected as a Site of Community Importance (SCI) and safeguarded by the Life Maestrale Project.

It features the typical characteristics of the gardens and cloisters that were common in the Neapolitan area, especially during the Baroque period: squares of grass divided by brick-paved paths, a central well, fruit trees and ornamental plants with aromatic essences, and columns—all originally plastered—that supported a pergola on wooden crosspieces. A restoration project has brought to light the late eighteenth-century layout of the garden, which can be reconstructed thanks to period documents and photographic evidence from the early 1900s.

The mouth of the Trigno represents a precious treasure trove of biodiversity.
