Just outside Certaldo, along the road that heads towards Castelfiorentino and Empoli, the Canonica hill park includes a green area equipped with picnic tables, barbecues and games for children, trekking paths for hiking enthusiasts and a real life. Along these paths bordered by rows of cypresses on the Certaldo hills, it really feels like walking in a postcard landscape. In the background, the tall medieval towers of San Gimignano, the bell towers of small churches surrounded by greenery and more countryside as far as the eye can see. From the Park you can easily reach the medieval village of Certaldo Alto where you can relax and enjoy a splendid sunset at the end of the walk. Not far away, the River Park, along the banks of the River Elsa, crosses the undergrowth of Gambassi Terme until it reaches Castelfiorentino.

A detour there is always worthwhile, the way there is a bit adventurous, since the small stream has to be crossed several times, but it is doable for everyone. The geyser sprays cold water, the smell of sulfur is limited to a small corridor

The “Pozzo Sfondato”, a Jurassic well on the volcanic rocks of the Evola River; a wild place where the river flowing over the rocks forms small waterfalls. Here over time, the water has dug into the rock some real wells or holes where the people of Montaione (and not only) come to cool off on hot summer days. The spot is easily accessible thanks to a dense network of nature trails in the Municipality of Montaione. Near the area you can still see the ruins of the old Molinuzzo delle Pozzole, but above all an old brick bridge that, in addition to the passage of goods, animals and people, was used to cross the "millstone" of the Molino delle Pozzole, located at valley at a distance of about 300 meters. A wonderful and unique place: nature that is combined with history, where it is possible to understand a glimpse of the local economy of the time thanks to the numerous mills along the river. A magical place for those who love bathing rivers and trekking itineraries.

Completely without water in August

Small waterfall formed by the Egola stream. The name Pozzo Sfondato derives from the fact that this waterfalls have formed pools whose depth is not known and in which it is possible to swim in summer. Higlight not easy to reach the best route is from via Ribaldi.
