You start from Cartore and take two trails: the first, a bit challenging, is 2.5 hours long, and the second, easier, is about 4 hours long. I chose the 2.5-hour trail and recommend it for those in good shape! Once you reach your destination, you're surrounded by this wonderful view of Lake Duchessa and the surrounding mountains, including Monte Murolungo, whose majestic presence is hard to miss.

Monna dell'Orso is a mountain located in the Monte Livata district, in the Simbruini Mountains. With a height of 1,745 meters above sea level, it is one of the most emblematic peaks in the area. The mountain is famous for its ski resort, which includes a four-seater chairlift that allows you to easily reach the top and enjoy spectacular views of the surrounding valley. In addition to winter, Monna dell'Orso is also a popular destination during the summer season, thanks to its trails that lead to panoramic excursions in the heart of the Simbruini Mountains Regional Natural Park.

The Duchess Lake, of karst origin, located at 1788m. above sea level, it is a natural basin of the central Apennines. The lake is not fed by its own springs or by a river and the water level is linked to meteorological factors (rain and snow).

This is a large picnic area with shelter located on a hill overlooking a volume. Volubrums are artificial water basins used to water animals. The refuge is typical of the Apennines: not guarded but managed by local clubs who keep it tidy and clean. It can be reached with an easy walk from Campo Staffi.

Monte Autore, with its 1,854 meters of altitude, is the third peak of the Simbruini mountains. It can be reached with an easy walk from Campo dell'Osso, also suitable for families and less fit people. It is a very panoramic peak, which offers the gaze a broad view of the Apennines: from the Gran Sasso, to Terminillo, to the nearby Mount Velino up to the Meta mountains further south. The walk to the top is possible in any season, in winter with snowshoes. Autumn is the best season, when the Simbruini woods are tinged with multiple colours.

The word "Volubro" indicates, in Lazio, the lake basins with surface outlets used for watering livestock. The Volubro del Ceraso is located close to the border with the Abruzzo region, a short distance from Monte Tarino and the source of the Aniene river; inside it is possible to observe a large colony of "Carassius Auratus": goldfish!
