Neu-Falkenstein Castle is one of the most beautiful and largest ruins in the canton of Solothurn. The climb to the castle is rewarded with a wonderful view over the Balstahl Gorge, especially if you climb the keep.

A great starting point for the Aare River Trail. The train station is right next to the castle, and there's also free parking. For example, you can take the red train from here to Solothurn and hike back along the Aare River – a beautiful route!

Despite its name, it is believed that the castle is older than Alt-Falkenstein Castle, located further down the valley on the other side. It was the seat of the Swiss noble Falkenstein family.

Nice view of Aarwangen Castle 🏰 on cycle route 5 and 8 Olten -> Solothurn. The castle already existed as a knight's complex at the end of the 12th century 👌🏻.

The rock formations of the Holzflue, the Klus Lobisei as the entrance to the Guldental with its rock faces and the Neu Falkenstein Castle ruins form an impressive stone ensemble.

With the descent from Bannwil down, it can be easily integrated into the traffic. No bike path of its own and a lot of traffic. Beware of the bridge, it often jams. After the bridge, however, you can turn right again directly over the railway tracks onto the cycle path.
