The Blinn Trail is a wide dirt fire road which parallels the entire north shoreline of Santa Margarita Lake with spurs to hiking trails and campsites by the water. The trail is exposed to the sun the whole way but yields gorgeous views.

You get a nice view of Santa Margarita Lake and the Salinas Dam as the trail crests the bend of the western shore. This northern corner of the lake is known as Salinas Bay and is a popular spot for waterfowl.

This beautiful small harbor is a truly unique setting on the central coast. The original breakwater was built between the 1890s and 1913 to protect the harbor from large waves and heavy surf, and it still serves its purpose today. It’s not as touristy as some other locations, making it an ideal spot to take a break and walk on the pier. It’s also a fantastic place to see the sunset if you’re lucky enough to be here in the evening.

This beautiful 40,662-acre reservoir provides drinking water for San Luis Obispo, Cayucos and the surrounding area. It is encompassed by grassy rolling hills and oak and sycamore trees, with herds of cattle grazing peacefully in the background. The lake is open to the public only during the trout fishing season (last Saturday in April to November 15th). The trail alongside the lake is primarily used as fishing access but is also a beautiful area for hiking, cycling, picnicking, and bird watching.

Laguna Lake is a great place to bring the family out for a walk. There's plenty of areas for a picnic, playground for the kids, lots of birds around the laguna, plus access to a number of good hiking trails.
