Shadow Lake is a large mountain lake that is ice-free quite early in the year. It can be reached via the John Muir Trail or the Shadow Lake Trail from Mammoth Lakes.

Olaine Lake is a beautiful alpine lake. It is surrounded by woods and mountains. The path from the nearest parking lot is not too challenging, so it is definitely worth the effort for the great scenery.

Thousand Island Lake is one of the most beautiful lakes in the Sierra Nevada. It's name comes from the shimmering stone islands that make up it's unique and a true postcard motif. On its eastern shore, the Pacific Crest and John Muir Trail converge again.

Starkweather Lake was named after a miner from the area in the 1920s. This lake is known for its rainbow trout and stunning views. The road that allows for access to this lake closes to motor vehicles in the winter.

Minaret Lake is a stunning, high alpine lake. The path to get to it is challenging, so there is a good chance you will have the lake all to yourself.

Bass Lake is a popular spot for running, hiking and boating. There are great views of the lake from the roads that follow the banks of the lake. The lake was created when the Crane Valley Dam was constructed across Willow Creek.
