One of the four entrances to the Alhambra in Granada is through the Gate of Justice, also known as the Gate of the Esplanade. It features an impressive horseshoe arch. Built during the reign of Sultan Yusuf I in the 14th century, it is believed that its original purpose was to serve as the main entrance to the Alhambra, symbolizing power and authority. It is considered the largest of the Nasrid gate-towers.

Nasrid origin (11th century): it served the old Azitini Mosque and was supplied by the Aynadamar irrigation ditch, a sophisticated Andalusian hydraulic system. Christian reconstruction (17th century): on top of the original Muslim cistern, next to the current Church of San Nicolás. The current structure dates from 1646 according to Henríquez de Jorquera.

Prisoner Tower Zoraya, the morning star In the second half of the 15th century, the daughter of the commander of Martos, Isabel de Solís, was captured by the armies of Muley Hacén, king of Granada, during a battle between Christians and Muslims of Granada. Arriving at the Alhambra, the young girl was imprisoned in the Tower of the Thief or Sultana, which would eventually take on a new name after this legendary episode. This tower (Torre de la Cautiva) is on the roundabout of the wall and was known in the 16th century as the Tower of the Thief (Torre de la Ladrona) or Tower of the Sultana (Torre de la Sultana). It got its current name based on the assumption that Isabel de Solís lived there. She converted to Islam, changed her name to Zoraya and was the favorite wife of King Muley Hassan.

The Tower of Justice stands on the southern wall of the fortress next to the fountain of Charles V and is the current main entrance to the Alhambra. According to the inscription above the inner archway, Jusuf I had it built as "Bib Axarea" or "Esplanade Gate". It was completed in June 1348.

Of the four outer gates of the walled enclosure of the Alhambra, the most monumental is La Puerta de la Justicia, built in 1348. The Gate of Justice, also known as the Gate of the Law in Arab times, Bib-Xarea, was built by Yusuf I in 1348. However, it seems that its real name was Bib-Xaria, Puerta de la Explanada which referred to to the space in front of it.
