Finally everything is open again and nicely restored; a little detour is worth it for little money and safety equipment.

The little church of Sant'Antonio, located approximately halfway up the Serrai di Sottoguda gorge, was built in ancient times with the specific purpose of protecting travelers who ventured into the gorge, which until a few decades ago was the only route to Malga Ciapela and the Fassa Valley. Originally dedicated to Saint Anthony the Abbot, protector of animals, following a mass slaughter, it was later dedicated to Saint Anthony of Padua, whose feast day is June 13th. This was to allow the population to more easily reach the church for Holy Mass during a more favorable time of year, such as spring. It was renovated in 1880. In 1934, a plaque was placed there in memory of those who fell in the First World War on the Marmolada front. The two frescoes on the side transepts of the entrance door depict Saint Sebastian and Saint Rocco, patron saints of the church of Sottoguda.

The path up to the Rosetta refuge does not let up: it is constantly ascending from the beginning. However, in this section, the demand intensifies a little due to both the inclination and the type of terrain. Although it is not technically difficult, the ravine at your feet is impressive. There are some parts that have chains to hold onto, which helps give you security on the most exposed steps.

Just below the bridge, an upward viewpoint allows you to take a spectacular photo with the person on the bridge. No special equipment is required, just a good dose of salt in the pumpkin so you don't swing, the bridge must be crossed with the bikes by hand and you don't group on the bridge.

Unfortunately, the Sottoguda Gorge is no longer passable. Storm Vaia in autumn 2019 washed away the entire road in the gorge. It will certainly take some time before it is repaired. Currently, Malga Ciapela can only be reached via the main road and through the short, illuminated tunnel.

The ascent of the Venegia valley is an excursion of moderate altitude and without technical difficulties, also ideal for families and beginners. the climb starts from the car park of the visitor center of the Paneveggio Lake Natural Park (for a fee) and initially continues on a wide path in the woods (trail sign 934), where it is necessary to pay attention to the presence of hikers on foot. Subsequently it connects to a carriage road that ends in the parking lot of the Venegia hut. From here, continue on an excellent dirt road and regular slopes to the Segantini hut, an excellent panoramic point. For the descent, always follow trail 934, always on a good dirt road, paying attention only to some steep sections in the initial part. The path is NOT reserved for cyclists, so beware of hikers who can be numerous because the area is very popular. estimated time for the excursion: about four hours (including stops) At the Segantini refuge there is a small bar serving sandwiches and beers.
