🦅 Closed times for sea eagle conservation: • The closure often does not apply to the entire trail, but only to sensitive areas near eyries (nests). • The affected trails are usually marked with signs or information markings. • Different regulations may be imposed by the responsible nature conservation authority.

Gravel gem 🤩 and natural paradise I deviated slightly from the original route and rode less on paved roads. Instead, there are more forests 🌳 and dirt roads. A bit off the trail, but always close to it. If you like, you can travel to Eutin for free with a D-Ticket and Deutsche Bahn. The signs start just beyond the train station. Bring plenty of food and drink. You won't find anything to eat directly along the trail until halfway through. A tour that, in addition to the stunning scenery and a (rare) headwind that will blow your nose away, also offers so much sea 🐠: - Lake Eutin - Schwentine Water Trail - Sehlendorfer Binnensee Nature Reserve and surrounding area - Baltic Sea - Kleiner Binnensee Nature Reserve + adjacent salt marshes - Selenter Lake Nature Reserve - Selenter Lake Nature Reserve and surrounding area By the way, my tour barely differs from the original in terms of length (97.6 km) and elevation gain (600 meters), and I'm already looking forward to the rest of the route. Tour tip: The original route - mostly on paved roads, - (well) signposted from start to finish, and - a navigation system/map is a good idea. Beach toll 🏖️: - Sehlenhorst Beach (fee required) - Hohwacht Beach - Didn't see anyone 🤷🏻 My tip for a stop: alt-howachter-fisch-gourmet. Tues. - Sun. 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. A fantastic fried fish sandwich for €7.50. The menu looked good 👍🏼. Sediments such as sand and gravel are removed by abrasion at another point and deposited here by sedimentation. This is how typical balancing coasts with dunes, wide sandy beaches and lagoons or spits are created.

Long ago, the legendary pirate Klaus Störtebecker was said to have been hiding here. At that time the Great Inland Lake still had open access to the Baltic Sea, which only silted up later. His ships were able to access the lake via this, the ships were then pulled ashore and hidden in the forest. So his ships were not to be seen from the sea side and his hunters searched in vain.

The largest of the three beach lakes is surrounded by dense reeds and old beech forests. The lake is only accessible in a few places. With a little luck you can see eagles hunting and goosanders during their brood business.
