Bâlea Lac is an amazing lake to visit. Just by the most famous road in Romania, Transfăgăråșan. Stop by at a restaurant here with a view towards the lake if you feel hungry. Awesome landscape and road to the lake.

Staying overnight in this hostel is recommended due to its prime location. The rooms are clean and simply furnished. The food from the grill is good, breakfast is very regional, simple and good.

This view is particularly recommended in the afternoon because then one side of the saddle is illuminated by the sun while the other side is in the shade.

My hike required surefootedness and a good level of fitness. Alpine equipment or experience in alpine climbing were not necessary.

It can be dangerous in winter season!

Built between 1980 and 1981, the dam has the role of supplying water to the city of Sibiu, the communes of Gura Râului, Cristian, Sura Mare, Ocna Sibiului and Șelimbăr, but it also mitigates the floods and is involved in the production of electricity at the 3.7 MW Cibin plant. The lake behind it is 68 hectares wide and "houses" 15.5 million cubic meters of water. The view of the surrounding area is awesome, the road is paved and the uphill difficulty easy to medium.

This is one of the largest open-air museums in Romania. Located immediately south of Sibiu, the museum contains creations of traditional, pre-industrial Romanian folk civilization. Traditional houses, workshops and building complexes for all over Romania are scattered around a lake, among the trees of the Dumbrava Sibiului forest. Very nice place to visit if you are interested in the Romanian culture or you would like to spend a nice and relaxing day somewhere outside.
