I cannot recommend enough Cabana Suru. Good food, lovely people. A few useful info: - there are several rooms with 7+ beds - running water and toilets available inside - shower available for a fee - weak GSM signal in the area, it depends on your carrier - make sure you have cash on you

I was there on a Saturday, and the grill was in full swing. I especially recommend the traditional grilled bulz. It's a polenta ball filled with burduf cheese.

There was talk at one point that it should be renovated again...is there any truth to this?

Since everything was full at first, we were kindly offered to sleep in the dining room. We ended up getting a bed in the dormitory for 150 lei. That was very nice, but not exactly cheap. In the evening, there was food available at the stated times, but the portions were really small (for 50 lei). We wanted to have lunch again before the descent at the stated lunchtime of 12-2 p.m., but when we asked, nothing was cooked. We then bought ourselves a Snickers and a Coke there and set off. So don't rely on the lunchtime meal times.

Simple, beautifully situated stone hut with large dormitories – thin wool blankets and pillows provided, sleeping bag recommended. Good drinking water from a mountain spring, very simple food (vegetarian options, however, only available upon reservation the night before!). There are toilets and sinks with cold water for washing. In summer, the dining room and dormitories are not heated in the evenings and at night. Breakfast is served from 7 a.m., allowing for an early start to Moldoveanu. The hut has comparatively high prices, which is understandable given its high and remote location. Reservations are a good idea in summer.

A large cabin with plenty of rooms, all the amenities (hot shower, toilet, double room, power outlets, toilet paper, soap), and good food, including vegetarian options. Sandwiches are also available for purchase for your trip. A bit more expensive and not as personal and welcoming as other small cabanas in the area, but absolutely fine.
