Just beyond the hut/mountain shelter is the summit entrance. The hut can be seen from afar and is accessed via two paths, plus a third from the summit.

Bikers sometimes ride along the path here. So one of them put a red flag on the eaves of the hut. Very clever.

The Blitzenreuter Lake District has been known as an ecologically valuable area for many years. As early as 1924, the central raised bog core and its non-peat-drained surroundings were protected as a protected forest. In 1937, other parts of the area were designated as a nature reserve (Dornacher Ried with Häckler Ried, Häcklerweiher and Buchsee).
